My Spring Break was the first full week of March. My friends Dustin, Mike, and I road-tripped out to Colorado for a week full of adventure. We drove into Boulder on Monday afternoon with plans to stay there a few days before heading into the mountains later in the week.
When we got there, Dustin's friend "mountain" Mike suggested we switch our plans and catch the snow predicted in the forecast for the mountains. So later that day we jumped back in the car and headed to Winter Park to stay with some of Dustin's other friends. The next day actually turned out to be blue bird but we didn't mind.
That night we continued our journey and traveled to stay with some of Mike's friends near Copper Mountain. The next morning we had another blue bird day at Copper. At the end of the day we had planned to continue on to Breckenridge for a third day of snowboarding. But car trouble held us down. Instead, we headed back to Boulder the next day. A beautiful day on US Highway 6.
When we to into boulder we headed straight to the face of the first Flat Iron and attempted to climb the face. Having a team of 6 it took far longer than we had anticipated. As time passed, the sun went down on the east facing cliff and so did the temperatures, leaving us to abandon the plan a few pitches up and repel back down.
The last few days we explored the town and did a little bouldering before finally getting the car fixed and heading home. Overall, it was an amazing trip well worth the gas-money!
